HexHog All-Terrain Wheelchair
Built and presently marketed in the United Kingdom, the all-wheel-drive 6x6 electric HexHog All-Terrain Wheelchair allows users to traverse rough terrain with the toggle of an armrest joystick. Key to the machine's agility and safety is the machine's flexible chassis, which is designed such that all the wheels maintain contact with the ground for traction and stability. Powered by a 36-volt lithium ion battery, the twin magnet-pancake motors reportedly provide for a top speed of 81/2 mph and a range of 8-12 miles. (Re-charging requires about 21/2 hours.) Braking is primarily through the motors and secondarily through fail-safe magnetic disc brakes. The armrest joystick features adjustable damping and acceleration/deceleration plus an emergency stop system that is designed to simultaneously isolate the battery power and apply the brakes.
