Firewood-Splitting Drill Bit
Hand drill with firewood-splitting drill bit splitting small log into kindling

Often less expensive and certainly requiring less exertion than using axe, maul, or wedge, a Firewood-Splitting Drill Bit can break apart and further split fireplace-length logs into kindling. Two or so inches long and cone-shaped, the bit is made of high-carbon steel, grooved to prevent slippage, and titanium coated to reduce friction and heat. Powered by one's handheld drill, it will reportedly split oak, hickory, walnut, and sycamore, but is not recommended for knotty or large-diameter hardwoods.
