Homemade PTO Remover/Installer

With this grip-improving Homemade PTO Remover/Installer, Tony Bunniss (Webster MN) can disconnect and reconnect his JD 420 garden tractor's PTO shaft with less grip strength. The device consists of two U-shaped brackets loosely linked together. One U-bracket fastens to the knuckle joint on the PTO and is secured with set screws. The other U-bracket fastens to the locking collar ring at the end of the PTO shaft and is also secured with set screws. Once the U-brackets are fastened on the shaft, handles slide onto the links between them and are pushed forward. Pushing the handles forward draws the locking collar ring back. When the collar ring is pulled back, the U-brackets latch together and hold it in place. The PTO shaft can then slide freely onto the tractor shaft. Once on the tractor, the collar ring latch is released and the U-brackets are removed. To remove the shaft the steps are followed in opposite order. Blueprints are reportedly available from Bunniss at his email address below.
