Quadriplegic-Accessible Hunting Stand
The Quadriplegic-Accessible Hunting Stand that Lamar Rodabaugh of Amory, MS, made consists of a wooden, elevated platform with cable-type hoist. In using it, he has someone operate the hoist and help him get situated in the seat, where he's likely to remain all day. The stand features a rifle-support system, with a chair mounted on a rotating turntable that's bolted to the platform. A table is attached to the chair, with his gun mounted to the table such that the barrel can pivot up and down for aiming. A steel ring (fastened to the platform) surrounds the chair assembly at elbow height. When in the chair, Rodabaugh can rotate on the turntable any direction by simply pushing on the stationary steel ring. The butt of his rifle is weighted with lead so its center of gravity is near the pivot point and trigger. This reduces kickback and keeps the gun level while he waits for game.
