Ag-Krane Boom Lift
The Ag-Krane Boom Lift is a multipurpose device that mounts on the tractor's three-point hitch and can hoist loads of 4,000 pounds to a height of almost 14 feet. It consists of (a) a straight-boom hoist with an arm that bends in the middle and pivots at the end opposite the base, and (b) two hydraulic cylindersone to extend the boom arm, the other to adjust the angle of the arm's loading end. Besides equipment maintenance and repair, this versatile device has also been used for such tasks as loading implements onto trucks, lifting bulk seed bags, handling large, round hay bales, and stacking pallets.
Caution Notes:
- For safety, (a) if possible, operate a lift only when the engine of the machine being accessed is off; (b) wear seatbelts to minimize the risk of falling off the lift; (c) always look up- ward when using the lift to avoid power lines or other obstacles; (d) be aware of potential pinch points on the lift; and (e) post warning signs and instructions on the lift as reminders.
- Most cable-winch manufacturers warn against using their equipment for lifting people. Because the lifts discussed here have no braking device, if the cable was to snap, the operator would likely fall to the ground and might be struck by the cable.
- Be sure to have an alternative exit plan in case of an emergency.
